It's That Time Again...Get Your Flu Shot!
- The "flu shot" - an innactivated vaccine, meaning it is made from flu viruses that have been killed. It is given as an injection with a needle, usually in the upper arm. It is approved for healthy people as well as those with chronic illnesses.
- The Nasal Spray (FluMist)-made from live but weakened strains of the flu. It is only recommended for healthy people between the ages of 2 and 49 who are not pregnant.
Both vaccines take about two weeks to reach full effect after administration.
There are some people who should not get vaccinated. They include those with severe egg allergies, those with a current illness with fever, and those who have had a severe reaction to the flu vaccine in the past.
Protect yourself and the ones you love from serious complications from the flu and talk to your doctor about getting your shot (or spray) today!
