A great way to celebrate is to get started on making your own decisions...in advance. Advanced directives are a great way to make your wishes known regarding the care you would like to receive at the end of life. It also allows you to appoint someone you trust as your health care proxy, or durable power of attorney, who can make decisions for you if you can't make them yourself.
Five Wishes is another document that functions like an advanced directives, but takes it a step further to address physical, emotional, and spiritual decisions.
Don't forget to have some fun and play games while you celebrate! Go Wish is a card game from Coda Alliance that you can play with your loved ones and health care professionals to make your wishes known.
If you haven't done advanced directives already, what better time than National Health Care Decision Day?
Make Your Wishes Known: Advanced Directives
Make a Wish....or Five: Five Wishes

What is so wrong with being given the means to end one’s own life either when terminally ill, or when one just gets sick and tired of it all? I so wish our society, including doctors and legislators, would become more enlighened about the subjects of both suicide and euthanasia. I personally plan to end my own life if I have one of the above conditions, but I’ll probably botch it…With the presence of strictly regulated controls, it would be so much better if it could be physician-assisted, and if in a coma, have it done for me.
