The Gifts of Grief

Sunday July 6, 2008
I've heard grief described as a "bottomless pit", as "waves crashing down on you, not giving you a chance to catch your breath before another one comes", as "hurting physically, like my heart is literally breaking". Grief is all-encompassing, overwhelming, and can seem never-ending. It changes you forever. It can also leave you with gifts that you will treasure for a lifetime.

The Gifts of Grief, a film by Nancee Sobonya illustrates through the stories of seven remarkable people how grief can leave us with gifts. It is a film that I highly recommend for individuals who have suffered a loss as well as for grief support groups, churches, schools, and any organization that is in a position to help grieving individuals. Nancee has done a beautiful job exploring how people can embrace, and learn from, their pain.
