Chronic Pain

Definition: Chronic pain is pain that persists for an extended period time despite treatment of its underlying cause. It can be a result of a long-term illness, such as cancer and arthritis, or a lingering result of an injury. Common complaints and causes of chronic pain include:
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Cancer
  • Fibromyalgia

Chronic pain may be caused by an injury or illness, but many causes of chronic pain aren't known. Treatment for chronic pain may include medications, physical therapy, electrical stimulation, alternative therapies (acupuncture, acupressure, massage, yoga, etc,) counseling, as well as many other therapies.
